Entries for the “Eye Level Children’s Literature Award” Contest will be accepted until September 30. The contest is promoted by the Daekyo Culture Foundation and World Youth Culture Foundation and organized by Daekyo Co., Ltd.
Created to discover novel and competent children’s literature writers, the “Eye Level Children’s Literature Award” serves as a gateway for up-and-coming writers by producing numerous star writers in the creative children’s story and verse genres.
In particular, this year’s 20th contest offers a global award, and it is simultaneously held in 7 countries including the USA, Hong Kong, and Malaysia.
The “Eye Level Children’s Literature Award” is divided into the domestic Children’s Literature Award, Children’s Creative Verse Award, and Global Award. The Children’s Literature Award is for novel and established writers and is divided into 3 categories: short and long stories, verses, and illustrated storybooks. The winner of the Children’s Literature Award gets a total of 50 million won in cash prize and an opportunity to attend the Bologna International Children’s Book Fair.
The Children’s Creative Verse category is open to all elementary students in Korea; creative verses of any theme will be accepted. A total of 75 children and 6 groups per school will be chosen as winners in the Children’s Creative Verse and will be awarded 12 million won worth of Cultural Gift Cards and 15 million worth of books, respectively.
In addition, this year’s newly organized Global Award seeks short stories and illustrated storybooks by new and established children’s literature writers in the USA, Hong Kong, Malaysia, Indonesia, Singapore, and the Philippines. Works submitted in English, Chinese, Indonesian (Bahasa Indonesia), and Filipino (Tagalog) will be accepted and can be sent to Daekyo’s local office in each country. The first prize winners of the Global Award will each receive a total of USD 20,000 and tickets for touring Korea. Additional awards of USD 46,000 and souvenirs will be given for each country.
The winners of the Global Award will be announced on November 5, and those of domestic awards, on November 19. More details regarding the submission of literary works can be found at the website for the 20th Eye Level Children’s Literature Award Contest (
